One of my research interests are the aeroelasticity and flight dynamics of very flexible airplanes. (like NASA Helios). For these airplanes, the structural deflections during the flight are so large that they strongly affects the flight characteristics. This can potentially lead to a crash, as it happened to NASA Helios.
During my master degree, I’ve studied the flight dynamics of these kind of airplanes and developed a toolbox called AeroFlex for simulating them.
You can find more about this research in the AeroFlex GitHub repository.
